There’s something truly special about photographing family. So and when the opportunity arose to capture my cousin Olivia’s senior photos in Sacramento, I was obviously all in. This wasn’t just another photoshoot; it was a celebration of Olivia’s milestone.
Olivia shines against an array of artfully painted murals, bringing a lively and colorful backdrop to her joyful expressions. Each portrait captures her radiant smile and the relaxed confidence of her pose, complemented by casual yet chic attire. Her floral print top paired with classic jeans and sneakers were a great choice. The artwork behind her, featuring a stunning blue bird and a fiery, autumnal scene, adds a dynamic and artistic flair to each shot. It’s a reflection of Olivia’s youthful spirit and the creativity of the session. These images not only highlight her style and personality but also beautifully document this significant transition into adulthood.
Downtown Sacramento Senior Photos
The day of Olivia’s senior portraits, there was a lot going on downtown. Thus, we decided to make the most of it and explore lots of locations.
Our day began under the scorching sun, typical of a Sacramento summer. It was a perfect day to start at the Desert Garden. The garden, an unexpected slice of arid beauty amidst the bustling city, complemented Olivia’s boho style flawlessly. The sandy paths and drought-tolerant plants provided a stunning backdrop that echoed Olivia’s adventurous spirit. Though the heat was intense, it only made the desert vibes more authentic. We half-expected a mirage to appear on the horizon. In retrospect, an evening shoot might have captured the garden in a different light, but the morning glow added a fresh vibrancy to Olivia’s portraits.
One of my favorite downtown Sacramento senior photo locations was the California State Capital World Peace Rose Garden. The garden is free to the public and brimming with hundreds of roses in peak bloom. Consequently, this location proved perfect for showcasing Olivia’s grace and the delicate transition from adolescence to adulthood.
The roses were in such spectacular bloom that each snapshot seemed to paint Olivia amidst a canvas of nature’s finest artwork, making it a great spot for senior photos in downtown Sacramento.
Crocker Art Museum
Wandering around Sacramento for senior photo locations was a photographer’s dream, there was so many opportunities for incredible shoot locations. Olivia, her mom, my grandma, and me, all smashed into the car for a ladies’ afternoon of photos and exploring the city.
As our photo session progressed, we found ourselves in another enchanting environs. This location, adorned with its lush greenery and ornate iron gates, offered a picturesque setting that was nothing short of magical. Consequently, Olivia leaned comfortably against the cool iron, surrounded by an abundance of soft-hued flowers and vibrant green leaves that seemed to celebrate the season. Moreover, her laughter was soft and her poses effortless, reflecting a mature composure mixed with youthful exuberance.
Murals Provide a Playful Backdrop
Positioned against an expansive mural of a dragonfly, the artwork’s vivid colors and dynamic lines complement Olivia’s relaxed and cheerful demeanor.

Senior Photos at Christian Brothers High School
Olivia exudes school spirit in her vibrant cheerleading uniform, representing Christian Brothers High School with pride. The royal blue and red outfit, complete with sparkling pom-poms, accentuates her enthusiastic energy and passion for cheerleading. Captured in various poses—whether she’s playfully holding up her pom-poms, sitting gracefully on the stairs, or smiling broadly under the school’s sign—each photo highlights her connection to her school community. The backdrop of well-kept school grounds and blooming rose bushes adds a picturesque quality to the images. Olivia’s beaming smile and dynamic presence in these photos perfectly encapsulate her spirit and dedication as a cheerleader, celebrating her high school journey and the vibrant life of her school community.
Her personalized cheer megaphone is embellished with her name and graduation year. It rests beside her, symbolizing her achievements and memories associated with her cheerleading career.
As a photographer—and more importantly, as her cousin—I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Olivia’s senior photo session in Sacramento was a testament to her beauty, both inside and out, and a day I’ll cherish in my heart forever.
