Cake Smash Birthday Photos

There is only “ONE” way to celebrate a first birthday and thats with a cake smash photo session.

Cake smash sessions are done at the Riveted Photography studio in Williston, North Dakota. We have all the backdrops, props, cake stands, you just need to bring baby and the cake. The tree stump cake was perfect addition to the setting besides this adorable baby. He dug right into the cake and wasn’t shy about it. Maybe grandma assisted a little bit but he loved his cake.

What to Expect at the Cake Smash

There are three parts to a cake smash session: the cute pics of baby with the scene, the cake smash and the bath tub session (bath tub session is an additional fee). The portraits of baby with the scene is just to document them at this age and in their cute outfit of course. The point is to smash the cake and have a great time for your baby’s milestone session but they don’t always love to touch the cake. The tub session is usually a milk bath, we can do a hot chocolate them, the rubber ducky session, or milk with flowers. The possibilities are endless on theme for any of the sessions.

What is a cake smash? A cake smash is the photo session milestone that marks the baby’s first birthday. While we can do a cake smash for any birthday, the first is the most common.

What is the best cake for a cake smash photo session? A buttercream cake is ideal for the smash cake. Make sure it is room temperature which makes it perfect for smooshing, flinging and getting all over the place.

What do I bring to the cake smash? Bring your little “ONE” and the cake. I can go pick up the cake for you in Williston. you’re already juggling so much. Just set it up with your favorite cake maker and I will have it at your session. Please bring a happy baby that has not been immunized within 72 hours of session or a baby that is feeling sick, happy to reschedule so we have the best smasher for their session.

Shaw’s big birthday party was scheduled for the following day and his parents got him a really cute fishing cake shaped like a bobber. The pics on Facebook were too cute. Just love the smile with his little front teeth. Such a happy baby, I truly loved doing his photos over the last year. Bathtub Mini Session

This little guy was thrilled for his bathtub photos after his cake smash. Water splashing all over, ducks flying out of the tub, he was having the best time. Over the last year we have done all of Shaw’s photos beginning with his newborn session, actually we did the maternity photos too. He is absolutely darling and it was a fun year seeing him grow. They change so much over the year and I love to capture all the milestones for the parents.

I think these rubber ducky mini sessions are going to be a thing! The setup is so sweet and simple. Who doesn’t love happy babies in the bathtub?
