Megan and Colten had a two-part maternity photo session with us. The first was in our Williston photography studio for some glamorous high fashion portraits complete with luxury angel wings, couture gowns from our client closet and unique props. The second was outside for sunset maternity photos in Williston. The couple requested that we do their session out at Lewis & Clark State Park, a very beautiful location for any photography session.

Pregnancy photos in the studio are some of my favorite portraits to create, the mother-to-be is so radiant and lovely. Motherhood is beautiful and I love to capture that from behind the lens. When Megan came into our Williston studio for her consultation, she told me I could do whatever I wanted and so I had to get all my favorite props out to play with. My crown collection and the wings were a must. Just check out these pics! Colten and Megan are perfect and their portraits turned out so good, I can’t even pick a favorite, I love them all.
Finding the perfect props
We love supporting local businesses in Williston and we have two spots where we find lots of great prop treasures in our town. I don’t know what it’s called but the thing next to the lantern, the wood thing, we got it at Elite Designz.

We had to throw a boho look into their maternity studio portrait session. We picked up this vintage peacock chaise lounge when we were shooting a wedding in Minneapolis. Wouldn’t you agree its by far one of the coolest chairs we have in the studio? It’s so old and unique! I have never seen anything like it anywhere and I’ve been looking for 10 years! The lace gown with bishop sleeves over the shoulders is so sexy but sweetly boho, Megan looks beautiful. I added some burnt orange and red florals to compliment her hair.

Maternity Photos in Williston at Lewis & Clark State Park
Outdoor maternity photos in Williston during the summer can be really hot for expectant mothers. The scenery makes the heat worth it. It had to be the hottest day of summer so far when we took these for Megan and Colten. But we had so much fun, we didn’t even notice the sweat and bugs zooming around us. They were great clients, totally game for anything we had in mind for their session. So we ran all over the park that evening.

This large field overlooking Lake Sakakawea was a dreamy setting for a lace boho maternity gown. This gown is available in our client closet, it has a body suit under and is totally see-through but as you can tell, its not very noticeable. Williston sunsets are incredible and it doesn’t even start to get dark till way after 9. We start our summer outdoor portrait sessions after 8 because we want that golden hour light.

Along the lake beach sits this very unique driftwood structure and to say I don’t come here a lot would be a lie! We love shooting here, never did I think that North Dakota would have driftwood like the ocean, its very very cool.

Check out this family maternity session we did at the same location.
Romantic Photos on Lake Sakakawea

This orange maternity gown is fire! Completely see-through but with the body suit, it is just the right amount of sexy. The dress, the hair and the North Dakota Badlands go perfectly together.

We are looking forward to their newborn session in a few weeks when we get to meet Oaklynn. She is going to be just as pretty as her momma. Eek! Can’t wait!
